A few years ago a student at Stanford University was doing some research in the South Pacific and was captivated by some local wood carvers. He got to know them quite well and somehow managed to convince the university to have these carvers come to the campus and carve an exhibition of totem poles and stone carvings. During the time the wood carvers were at Stanford, they got to know American culture and found it to be rather "silly". As you can see from these carvings, their culture is focused on, shall we say, the essential elements of life. I hope to find time someday to do more detailed close-ups of these photos so you can see greater detail. Hope you enjoy.
